Pilates for Pregnancy

Pilates is an ideal way to exercise in pregnancy as you do not exercise to exhaustion or outside your comfort zone. Pilates, when performed regularly, positively changes the body. It combines awareness of the deep postural and stability muscles, breathing sequences, and alignment, with suppleness and flexibility. The exercises can be modified to allow you to continue to exercise safely and effectively through all trimesters.

Our Antenatal Pilates classes are taught by experienced Women's Health Physiotherapists, Amanda Savage and Nicola Hopkins. We have been teaching Pilates for Pregnancy for 5 years with many women returning during second and even third pregnancies.

We run two Antenatal classes; one a Tuesday evening at 6.30 pm and the other on a Wednesday evening at 7.10 pm. The classes are held at Little Shelford Memorial Hall and last for one hour. The classes are generally in sets of 6 sessions at a cost of £48 for a set. Unfortunately, we are unable to give refunds for missed classes; however, it is possible to occasionally arrange to swap your class to fit in with an event.

Unfortunately there is usually a waiting list to join the classes as we keep the classes small to ensure a high standard of individual care. However, once you have a place in a class you may keep it for as long as it suits you.

If you have not done Pilates before you will need to attend an introductory session. We believe that you will benefit most from your classes if you have the opportunity to learn the basic techniques and principles of Pilates within a small group first. You will then be able to participate fully from the first class and enjoy your Pilates lessons more. The cost of the introductory session will be £8.00. (Back to top)

Postnatal Pilates

This class is aimed at women returning to exercise after having a baby. The class is held in the evening to allow you to come out once you have settled your baby for the night.

Our Pilates Instructor, Nicola Hopkins, is an experienced Women's Health Chartered Physiotherapist. She leads an hour of exercises with special emphasis on abdominal and pelvic floor muscles with empathy for the difficulties of getting back to exercise after a baby. After reviewing some of the exercises you learnt in the Antenatal classes you will progress to some more advanced exercises to challenge your body and help get you back into shape.

The Postnatal class is on a Tuesday evening 7.35 pm at Little Shelford Memorial Hall. The classes are generally in sets of 6 sessions at a cost of £48 for a set. Unfortunately, we are unable to give refunds for missed classes; however, it is possible to occasionally arrange to swap to one of our other classes to fit in with an event. (Back to top)
